SANDWICH NEWS COLUMN SUBMITTED BY DIANE COOK JOHNSON
Founder of Award-winning Shakespeare Company to Step Down
Caroline Nesbitt, the Founder and Artistic Director of the award-winning Shakespeare company, Advice To The Players, will step down as Artistic Director at the end of August. It was back in 1998 that she developed the idea that became Advice To The Players; a company that takes area teens and puts them onstage and backstage in mentoring positions with theatre professionals. In the ensuing years, the company has grown to include several productions a year, two summer youth camps, in-school workshops, community readings, and a creative partnership with students and faculty from Plymouth State University. The company has been the recipient of numerous New Hampshire Theatre Awards, and this February Nesbitt was honored with a special Award for Excellence at the 7th Annual NH Theatre Awards. She is currently directing William Shakespeare’s ‘The Winter’s Tale’, which will be performed at The Sandwich Fairgrounds Stage in conjunction with Sandwich Old Home Week.
“It is with both joy and sorrow that I announce my departure from ATTP at the end of this production,” says Nesbitt, “‘to seek new friends and stranger companies’. It’s been an amazing journey. I’ve loved it, loved all of you, loved our company of pros, teens, and community members, and loved the work that ‘we few, we happy few, we band of brothers’ (and sisters) have created together.”
Advice To The Players’ Board of Directors has appointed long time Education Director and much-loved actor Mark Woollett as the company’s Acting Artistic Director. “I have taught with, acted with, and directed Mark for over ten years” says Board Member John Sarrouf, “I can think of nobody more appropriate to continue Caroline’s mission, passion, and dedication to bringing Shakespeare to New Hampshire.”
The Board will be honoring Caroline and welcoming Mark at their 3rd Annual Summer Gathering, which is taking place on Sunday, August 9, at The Dragonfly Yoga Barn in North Sandwich. Tickets for the event, which is a fundraiser for ATTP’s youth

This means they need to earn $3000 to $4000. Please support the Woman’s Club and Sandwich’s young people. This Saturday and each morning during Old Home Week from 10:00 a.m. to noon, someone from the Woman’s Club will be selling raffle tickets in front of the Center Sandwich Post Office. Tickets are $1.00 each or a book of 6 for $5.00.
The Sandwich Woman’s Club is a civic organization which helps support programs for young people in the community. The bulk of the money they raise each year is divided up for books and supplies for Sandwich residents seeking undergraduate degrees; much of this money is raised by the summer raffle.
