Field Fine Art offers Art Classes
A new season of classes begins this Summer at Field Fine Art Studio, located at 74 Taylor Road in Sandwich. Classes include Basic Drawing, Drawing Animals, Watercolor for Beginners, Plein Air Watercolor, and Oil Painting Techniques. Kathryn Field writes: “Everyone is creative. Come discover ways to tap into those talents. There are two new class offerings this summer which I am very excited about. The Glass Mosaic class is something I have never offered in my studio before but did for many years with my students when I taught at Holderness. The second new class, 2-D, 3-D Collage and Mixed Media is a combination of printmaking, handmade books, and mixed media.”
Registration is easy; go online to fieldfineart.net and click on registration. Kathryn writes: “It has been a great year of creativity for me. A new and exciting gallery expansion of painting and sculpture works will unfold this summer.”

Radon Detector Available at Library
The library now has a digital radon detector that you can check out to learn if your home is safe from radon. Radon is a colorless, odorless gas that diffuses up from New Hampshire’s granite-rich substructure and seeps into our living spaces and water. This gas can have harmful effects on human health. Thank you, Mark & Peggy Longley, for your generous and important donation of our easy-to-use Airthings Corentium device! Give the library a call to learn more and/or to reserve the detector. 603-284-6665.

Benz Community Center. The Benz Center is a newly-refurbished, post-and-beam  building at 18 Heard Road in town, which can easily hold 50 people.  We have a kitchen stocked with silverware, cooking vessels and implements, dinnerware and condiments; a lawn with 2 new picnic tables, and a large parking lot.    We have a very nice AV system, large screen, and free WIFI.

We are a nonprofit, and operate through donation.  We ask for a small donation of $50 from Sandwich residents who want to use the space for social event—an incredible deal! The space is used as a meeting place by a wide variety of organizations -- no charge for nonprofit groups. Come and check us out -- call 603 284 7211  or email [email protected] for more information, or to make a reservation.

Sandwich Children’s Center
To better accommodate the child care needs of our families, SCC will begin offering full day/full year child care starting Tuesday, September 5. We have extended our operating hours for the Toddler and Pre-School Programs:  8:00-5:00 for the local academic school year (Sept to June) and 8:00-4:00 for the summer (July-August).  Our School Age Program (after school) will also be back and running at full capacity. Sandwich Central School has extended the kindergarten hours to 2:30, so kindergarten and school agers will be dropped off by bus at SCC after the end of the elementary school day.  Because there has not been an increase in tuition for three years and to accommodate the costs of the extended hours, tuition for Sept 2023 - August 2024 has been increased by 20%. Financial support is available if needed. Our currently enrolled children will be given priority, then enrollment will be opened up to the general public. To secure your child's place at Sandwich Children's Center, please contact Mariah Sizemore, Acting Director, Sandwich Children’s Center for further information.

Sandwich Climate Crisis Coalition
The Sandwich Climate Crisis Coalition (SCCC) are an ad-hoc group of more than 60 concerned citizens and part of a growing movement of towns in New Hampshire who are responding to the Climate Crisis with a commitment to promote energy and environmental conservation and use of alternative renewable resources. More than 67 New Hampshire towns have either passed or are working on climate warrant articles.
The key message: The more research we do, the more evident it becomes that our goal of 100% reliance on renewable sources of electricity by 2030 and for all other energy needs, including heating and transportation, by 2050 in the town of Sandwich will be very doable.
We welcome all concerned and interested Sandwich residents and other towns to join our Coalition with Communication, Education, Legislative, Conservation, and Solar committees to choose from. Please email [email protected] if you would like to receive SCCC emails and/or join our membership. Visit our website: just google Sandwich Climate.org.

Lifeline provides an additional $9.75 subsidy, bringing the cost to $10.70 for qualifying residents. Come with your knitting, crocheting, spinning, felting, rug hooking, embroidery, sewing or other fiber arts-related or hand-held project to work on.  There is no charge and the group is casual and welcoming. While there is no formal instruction, if you have a question about your project, there is usually someone in attendance who can provide assistance. Winter weather may change the meeting.

In the Round
In the Round, a community discussion group for the past 23 years, meets weekly in Sandwich. Doors open at 8:30, discussion begins at 8:45. The discussion generally runs until 10 am, or a bit longer. Anyone who wishes to join in that spirit of dialog is invited. Various viewpoints are welcomed. Everyone is welcome.
