Patricia Ladd Carega Gallery

Saturday, August 17, the gallery opens an exhibit entitled, ‘Landscapes, Glorious Landscapes.’ This unique display features a group exhibit of landscape paintings. The Patricia Ladd Carega Gallery invites you to join them for a reception to open this exhibit, on Saturday, August 17 from 5 till 7 pm.

Center Sandwich Fine Craft Gallery

The Center Sandwich Fine Craft Gallery, 32 Main Street, Sandwich, is open 7 days a week, until mid-October. Hours are Monday through Saturday, 10 am to 5 pm, and Sunday from 12 ‘til 5. Many new exciting craftsmen have been added to the gallery this year. Here are several:
~ Broom Making Essentials (For beginners)

Join us for this full-day workshop, where students will learn the beginning skills of broom-making. The morning session will focus on making traditional Cobweb Brooms, which are beautiful and useful.
After a lunch break, you will increase your skill level with a turkey wing whisk broom. The Turkey Wing Whisk Broom is a traditional-style hand whisk that is equally functional and decorative.
Artist Information: Robert Sheckler of Redmond Philbert Handwork is an enthusiastic learner, teacher, and crafter living in the Portland, Maine, area.

~Basket Weaving Class
Take your basket weaving to a new level with this two-day, 14-inch round gathering basket class. Tuesday and Wednesday, August 20th and 21st, at The Sandwich Home Industries. Learn how to wrap your handle, dye reed, and weave with seagrass and other enhancements to create your basket. We offer several traditional crafts like Greenwood Spoon Carving and Hand-Made Woven Brooms. Check out our classes and sign up at https://centersandwich.nhcrafts.org.


Ukrainian Egg Class
The designs are drawn on the eggs freehand with melted beeswax, and colors are obtained by dipping the eggs in successively deeper shades of dye. Finally, the wax is removed and the egg is varnished to protect the colors and strengthen the shell. Led by Wendy Shambaugh, a complete kit will be given to participants to continue the craft at home.
The class is on Friday, August 16 and lasts about 2 hours; your choice of class at 9:30 or 1:30. Class size is limited to 6 attendees. The cost is $25.

Historical Society

Please come enjoy this summer’s exhibit, “The Photograph and Memory,” featuring over 80 images from our collection, tracing the evolution of photography as it records and shapes our culture. Ambrotypes were glass plate transparencies recorded right in the camera! In order to see the positive, you simply insert black paper behind it to reverse the image! Come into the gallery and do it yourself! See how it was done 175 years ago! "The Photograph and Memory" exhibition, at the Sandwich Historical Society. Thursday, Friday, and Saturday: 10am-4pm; FREE! See your town through the ages come alive once again, through your viewing. Over 80 images!
Our beautiful Gift Shop will also be open highlighting new and familiar products as well as some wonderful layout changes. Something for everyone – and a great way to support the Society!


Live Owl Program

Marcia and Mark Wilson, owl experts, will introduce you to live owls UP CLOSE as they share their knowledge and insights. This entertaining and educational presentation begins with Mark’s interactive slide program featuring some of his finest owl photography. After much anticipation, Marcia brings the owls out one by one. Each bird is safely perched on her glove as she walks into the audience, providing intimate views of these secretive birds of prey.

Chapman Sanctuary and Visny Woods

Get outside and take in the sights, sounds and scents along the trails in a natural, wild forest at Chapman Sanctuary and Visny Woods. The summer months come and go so quickly, and things are changing rapidly in the natural world.
Located at 740 Mt. Israel Road in lovely Sandwich, New Hampshire.
CSVW trails are open from dawn until dusk every day FREE of charge.
Park in the upper parking area and sign in at the Visitor’s Kiosk where you will find trail maps and other helpful information.


Wildcrafting Workshop

Embrace the nature of our cycles and seasons while discovering the art of creating wild, locally harvested tea for beverage and medicinal purposes. Identify familiar, local plants traditionally used for various teas, infusions, and tinctures. Learn the essence of the wildcrafter’s promise and code—emphasizing the principles of ethical and sustainable wildcrafting, vital to perpetuating the continued proliferation of healing plants into the future—an act of kindness, honor, gratitude, and respect to our plant families. 
The workshop covers a range of practical activities in the field, equipping you with the skills to prepare, dry, store, and crush wild plants, and understand when to use fresh or dry. This hands-on approach will leave you feeling empowered and prepared for your own wildcrafting adventures.
Understanding the tools, guides, and apps for plant identification is crucial for safe and responsible wildcrafting. This workshop will ensure you are familiar with the plants you encounter, helping you to avoid dangerous look-a-likes and learn about endangered, threatened, or sensitive plants.

Club Sandwich with John Davidson

Willow Pond Antiques and Goods
Located at 12 main Street, Center Sandwich, Willow Pond features unique whimsical antiques and goods. You can also find Anna’s “Squam Neck Farm” Fresh Eggs at Willow Pond. Hours are Thursday through Saturday, 11-4, and Sunday 12-4.


Bookshop Open

Hill Country Books at 25 Grove Street is open Thursday through Saturday, 10 am – 5 pm. You’ll find a selection of unique reading material, many old books. The air conditioner is on. There is a big selection of Cashmere fingerless gloves for cooler weather. Summer is the best time to take a look. Available will be hot mustard, chili sauce, Scottish Shortbread, a wide variety of crafts, small antiques, White Mountain prints, antiquarian books, books by local authors, and book bargains including sets for $20.


Music Jam

Hello, beginner to intermediate musicians. This is a reminder that we gather every Wednesday from 6:30 to 8pm at the Sandwich town hall for a free, fun-filled music jam. We play traditional, Celtic, oldtime, folk, and Americana tunes at a slow to moderate tempo. Bring your hobby out and start playing with others! It’s fun and inclusive. Right now, we have fiddles, penny whistle, flute, guitars, mandolin, acoustic bass, piano, concertina, and an autoharp!! Sheet music available. Plenty of parking, and an elevator lift if needed. Friends and Fiber

If music isn’t your thing, maybe yarn is! Every Wednesday evening, 6:00 – 8:30 pm, Library Community Room: Friends and Fiber Group: All abilities and ages of fiber enthusiasts (and those wanting to learn or just visit) are welcome to attend. Come with your knitting, crocheting, spinning, felting, rug hooking, embroidery, sewing or other fiber arts-related or hand-held project to work on. There is no charge and the group is casual and welcoming. While there is no formal instruction, if you have a question about your project, there is usually someone in attendance who can provide assistance. Experience is that the group is likely to gather on the off weeks as well as everyone enjoys the company and sharing of ideas. Corner House Restaurant

This will be an exquisite dining experience a la Chef Boughalem including a 4 - course prix fixe gourmet meal. This is a SANDWICH SPECIFIC EVENT that we're calling Sandwich Loves Squam. Elevens Catering is offering prepared salads and more at the North Sandwich Store, 2 Maple Ridge Road in North Sandwich on the weekends throughout the summer. Deliveries occur on Thursdays or Fridays. Chestnut Meadow Farm

We will be taking part in the Sandwich Farmers’ Market every Saturday throughout the summer from 10 till noon on the village green in Sandwich. The lettuce is doing great this year! Plus, we have garlic, cucumbers, tomatoes, carrots, onions, and an assortment of other veggies. Chestnut Meadow is located at 146 Wentworth Hill Road, (Route 109) Sandwich. We offer Fresh Eggs from soy-free organic fed hens, and summer vegetables, all grown organically, no spray ever. Stanton Brook Farm

Botanical Lampshades

Open Saturdays in the new shade shed. 95 Foss Flats Road. Pressed flower lampshades, map lampshades, handmade paper shades, and made to order shades. Lamps too. Bring your lamp base so you can try some on. Does your old shade need restitching or new hardware? Bring that too. No credit cards; cash, checks and Venmo accepted. Take a drive to our Sugarhouse and try our small batch homemade ice cream made on site using all New Hampshire dairy from Hatchland Farm, one small batch at a time. Indulge in our caramel ice cream which is made by carnalizing the sugar for its flavor and color. Or our increasingly popular Honeyberry ice cream (made with honeyberries from Wayside farm).

Mountain Breeze Farm

Mt Breeze Farm will be joining other vendors Saturday morning 10- 12 for a market on the green, 32 Main Street, Sandwich. We will be there with freshly made garlic scape powder and salt, beef, pork and maple syrup. We will have ground beef, beef kielbasa, beef chorizo, stew meat and select steaks. For pork we will have ground pork, breakfast sausage, bratwurst, kielbasa, bone-in chops, cutlets, ham steaks, spareribs and baby back ribs. We will also have maple syrup in a variety of sizes.


Farmers’ Market

Your local farmers are busy raising and growing all sorts of delicious and beautiful products, and they want to share the bounty with you every Saturday this summer, from  10 am to 12 noon on the green in front of the Sandwich Fine Craft Gallery in the center of town. You’ll find local beef, pork, eggs, syrup, vegetables, herbs, jams, delicious baked goods, down home music, and more! If you like small, quiet, local farmers’ markets, this is the one for you.


Bearcamp Pond Meeting

The 67th Annual Meeting of the Bearcamp Pond Association will be held on Sunday, August 18, 2024 at 5:00 pm at the East Sandwich Meeting House on Rte. 25 across from Vittum Hill Road. All are welcome to attend.
The Association is a 501(c)3 nonprofit dedicated to preserving the natural beauty of Bearcamp Pond. Our diverse programs, such as water testing, maintenance of loon nesting rafts, as well as community outreach and education, help ensure the pond remains healthy and a source of enjoyment for all. You can learn more about the BCPA online at www.bearcamppond.org. Light refreshments will be served following the meeting.


Tamworth Community Food Center Welcomes You

If you or someone you know is in a position where access to food would be of help, please call the number provided. There are resources. The primary goal of the Tamworth Community Food Center is addressing hunger for those in need, serving the communities of Tamworth and Sandwich, NH. Our organization’s volunteers are trained and well-informed, knowing the value of awareness, action, and the effects of hunger. We are dedicated to providing fresh and nutritious food to people and families who may go without it. Our volunteers are devoted to understanding the significance and impact of community outreach. Donations from individuals, local organizations, businesses, and the towns provide stability and support, addressing the essentials of our citizens via sustainable solutions. It is our goal to tackle both short and long-term needs.

Senior Meals

Join the fun at our Wednesday lunch here in Sandwich! Sandwich senior meals take place on Wednesdays at noon at the Benz Center, 18 Heard Road, Center Sandwich. Additionally, Moultonboro senior meals are held Monday through Thursday at the Moultonboro Community Center (formerly Old Lions Club) at 139 Old Route 109. All are welcome. Coffee will be ready at 11:30!

East Sandwich Chapel Meeting

The annual Summer Service at the East Sandwich Meetinghouse will take place Sunday, August 18, at 2:00 pm. Come meet your neighbors while enjoying the historic meetinghouse. Refreshments to be served. The Meetinghouse Association needs our neighbors’ help to be stewards of the Meetinghouse and Vittum Hill Cemetery.


Sandwich Transfer Station

2023-2024 facility stickers are required for use of the Transfer Station (and swimming facilities). Stickers are available for purchase at Town Hall, by mail or by drop box. Transfer Station use is strictly prohibited for vehicles without stickers/passes (even for longtime residents!).
Sandwich Transfer Station hours are Sunday, Wednesday, Friday, and Saturday from 8 am to 4 pm. Please arrive at the Transfer Station at least 15 minutes before closing to allow for unloading and closure for the day. Kevin and John appreciate being able to close on time. Reminder: if you are recycling larger cardboard, please be sure it is cut to a maximum size of 4' x 4'. Larger pieces jam up our compactors!


Styrofoam Collection
From Mark Longly of the Sandwich Recycling Group:
Styrofoam collection at the Sandwich transfer station has been going well and our 
weekly deliveries to the Gilford densifier have resulted in savings from reduced
hauling fees as well as lower emissions and ash from incineration.  In addition 
to these benefits, the recycled material is used as feedstock in making insulation 
board, thereby replacing the need for virgin polymer in the construction process. 
Our hub location in Gilford, serving 12 towns, has diverted more than 88 40-yard 
containers from landfills or incinerators. 
However, there are three things you can do to make the task of preparing recycled 
Styrofoam for shipment easier for me and the equipment operators in Gilford:
1.)  The material to be fed into the densifier's hopper must be broken down to less than 12" X 12" sized pieces. 
2.)  The Styrofoam must be free of contamination.  Please clean any food scraps and remove all packaging, tape, cardboard, and labels. 
3.)   Polypropylene packaging cannot be densified.  Expanded polypropylene is soft and flexible, whereas expanded polystyrene (Styrofoam) is rigid and breakable.

North Sandwich Friends (Quaker) Meeting

North Sandwich Friends Meeting is open for in-person worship every Sunday from 10 – 11 a.m. in the 1881 historic Meeting House. The Meeting House is located at 354 Quaker Whiteface Road in North Sandwich, just north of the Durgin covered bridge.


Harvest Church of the Lakes Region

Harvest Church invites you to visit at 80 Bean Road in Moultonborough, Sundays at 10:00 am for contemporary worship and Biblical teaching. In the Round

In the Round, a community discussion group for the past 25 years, meets weekly in Sandwich. Meetings are Sunday, in person at the Benz Center, 18 Heard Road. Doors open at 8:30, discussion begins at 8:45. The discussion generally runs until 10am, or a bit longer. The topic is always thought provoking and related to what people are thinking about these days. In the Round welcomes all points of view, reasonably and respectfully considered. Anyone who wishes to join in that spirit of dialog is invited. Various viewpoints are welcomed. Everyone is welcome.
