Sandwich Woman’s Club Meeting

The next meeting of the Sandwich Women’s Club will be on Thursday, June 5, at 4:30 pm in the Community Room at the Samuel H. Wentworth Library. The agenda will include specific plans for the Luncheon on the Green and raffle on August 7 during Old Home Week. It's that time of year again! You may already be familiar with the Sandwich Woman's Club, organized in 1928 for the purpose of "doing good for the community." In order to benefit our special community, we hold two fundraising events during Old Home Week. The Luncheon on the Green funds the Community Christmas Tree for our young children. The Old Home Week Raffle provides funds for books and supply money for our college and trade school students for ALL 4 years. Perhaps you yourself, or your children have previously received this money. Our raffle committee is now seeking donations.
Last year some of our local contractors, opting not to dig a new cellar hole or build a new house, donated gift cards to other local businesses like the Sandwich Home Industries, or a local restaurant. One even provided a crisp $100 bill. These guys were thinking outside of the box!
If you are a crafter and would like to donate an item, we would love it! We believe that offering support to our students is so important. It takes a village to raise a child...please help us help them. If you would like to talk about making a donation, please feel free to reach out. And don't forget to buy those raffle tickets!

Dessert Auction

The Community Church of Sandwich presents the Annual Dessert Auction, June 7, at 10:00 am till noon, in the Craft Building at the Sandwich Fairgrounds. Each year funds are raised for a different cause. This year, all proceeds will go towards Alzheimer’s research. Contact Jackie Berry at 603-279-0450 for more information.

A Look Back

Sandwich Historical Society Director Jim Mykland has pulled together some interesting entries from the Sandwich Reporter (1893 – 1944). Here are some excerpts; To read more, visit sandwichhistorical.org/miscellany-and-mystery.
~June 6, 1895:  The shower last Sunday evening was accompanied by quite a heavy wind which did considerable damage in various parts of the State, although none of any consequence was done in this vicinity. In Bethlehem hailstones fell which were two inches in circumference, breaking out hundreds of windows. The new Catholic church at that place was blown down and many buildings were unroofed and trees uprooted.
~Crops are stating finely, their enemies also, the crows hatching earlier than usual, are attending to business; the potato bug is also ahead of time.

Chapman Sanctuary and Visny Woods

Visit Chapman Sanctuary and Visny Woods this weekend.
Walk the trails. Breathe the earth. Absorb nature. Some of the CSVW trails have been travelled by Sandwich townspeople and visitors from “away” for a hundred or more years. The woods, the meadow, Teacup Lake and the Cold River are an idyllic landscape of natural beauty and tranquility still today.
Chapman Sanctuary and Visny Woods is located at 740 Mt Israel Road in picturesque Sandwich, New Hampshire. There is plenty of free parking and room to prepare yourself for a lovely day on the trails.

Sandwich Master Plan

What’s Next for Sandwich? Help Shape the Future
The Town of Sandwich is updating its Master Plan — a community-driven document that will guide town decisions over the next ten+ years on housing, land use, economic development, natural resources, and more.
Why it matters:
The Master Plan is based on your input — through interviews, public meetings, and a town-wide survey coming later this year. It reflects our shared values and helps ensure that zoning ordinances, town policies and investments align with what matters most to residents.
What’s happening now:
The Planning Board has formed a Master Plan Subcommittee to lead this effort. We're gathering feedback, studying town data, and preparing for broader public engagement.
How you can stay involved:
• Visit our Town webpage often for updates and info:   Master Plan
• Contact us with any questions or feedback:  [email protected]
We’ll be reaching out for your input in the coming months, and we need to hear from everyone. Let’s plan for a future that reflects what we love about Sandwich — and what we want to see improved. Master Plan Subcommittee

North Sandwich Friends

North Sandwich Friends Meeting invites friends and neighbors to join their weekly Meeting for Worship from 10:00 to 11:00 am on Sunday at the North Sandwich Meetinghouse (354 Quaker Whiteface Rd., N Sandwich, NH 03259).
Quakers, or “Friends,” have their roots in 17th century England. We have no explicit creed, nor does Quaker practice reflect a hierarchy among individuals. Believing that there is that of God in every person, Quakers welcome all who seek to join us in common spirit. Friends seek to live lives guided by six “testimonies”: Integrity, Simplicity, Peace, Equality, Community and Stewardship.
Meeting for Worship is a time of quiet listening to the inner voice of spirit, God, the Light within –whatever term one uses—in community with others. We sit largely in silence for an hour; friends who are deeply moved to share an insight may rise and do so. Most Sundays, a very brief reading is offered reflecting Quaker values or history, which may provide a common focus for reflection. After the meeting, friends share individual reflections and announcements with each other.

In the Round

In the Round takes place Sundays at 8:45 – 10:30 am at the Benz Center, 18 Heard Road, Sandwich.
In the Round, a community discussion group for the past 25 years, meets weekly in Sandwich. The topic is always thought-provoking and related to what people are thinking about these days. In the Round welcomes all points of view, reasonably and respectfully considered. Anyone who wishes to join in that spirit of dialog is invited. Various viewpoints are welcomed. Everyone is welcome.
