Samuel H. Wentworth Library

There’s a lot happening for families and kids at the library this summer including the annual Summer Reading Program. This summer’s theme is “Adventure Begins At Your Library!”
~Summer Reading Raffle: Saturday June 22 to August 10. Visit the library each week, check out books and enter your name to win. The more you read, write, or draw, the more opportunities to enter. All ages are encouraged to participate.
~Family Storytime and crafts in June, July, and August: Saturdays at 10:30am. Each week join us for new stories and a related craft that ties in to this summer’s theme of Adventure. Meet at the stone reading circle on the front lawn, or inside in case of rain.
~Whales and Seals: Thursday, July 11, 8 am. Learn all about whales and seals in a hands-on experience led by UNH Marine Docent biologists on the front lawn of the library. Recommended for grades K-3. Register by July 10.
~Touch-a-Truck Event: July 22, 11 am. Join us in the lower parking lot for our Touch-A-Truck event. Get up close and personal to a variety of fire, police, and road department vehicles – including a fire engine and police cruiser.
~Super Summer Reading Program Finale: Saturday, August 10, 10-noon. We’ll celebrate a summer of exploration and literacy in the Sandwich Fairgrounds, with games, the Summer Reading Program raffle drawing, crafts, and more.
~Fisher Cats Games: By reading 5 books this summer, you will win 2 free tickets to see a Fisher Cats baseball game.

Friends of the Library Book Sale

Sandwich Historical Society

Opening Day 2024 promises to be another fun and memorable event!
The Elisha Marston House, Barn and Gift Shop opens for the summer season on Saturday, June 29, 10:00 AM – 4:00 PM. Our summer exhibit entitled, The Photograph and Memory, celebrates its grand opening in the Wentworth Room. This very special exhibit traces the evolution of the development of photography from daguerreotype through the digital process, using portraits and landscape photographs from our vast collection. For a more in-depth review of the components of the exhibit, visit sandwichhistorical.org. Our beautiful Gift Shop will also be open highlighting new and familiar products as well as some wonderful layout changes. More new products arriving in July! Something for everyone – and a great way to support the Society!
The Quimby Barn and Transportation Museum will be open from 10:00 AM – 3:00 PM and some of the trustees will be firing up the grill around noon. We are honored to have John Davidson returning to provide background music.
We have a fantastic line-up of artisans, who will be demonstrating their traditional skills on the lawn area beside the Quimby Barn and Transportation Museum from 12:00 – 3:00 PM. Our artisan line-up:
~Ian Raymond, photographer. Ian will demonstrate the making of Cyanotypes, a nineteenth century, blue, iron-salt process for making traditional photographs with exposures to the sun.
~Sara Goodman, textile artist – a dyer, weaver, spinner, stitcher, surface designer and lover of all things color and cloth! Sara will be demonstrating weaving techniques.
~Brian Stockman, has dedicated his life to the study and practice of a variety of traditional indigenous and colonial artisan craft media, and large-scale figurative sculpture. Brian will demonstrate the art of scrimshaw carving.
~Alli Plourde, potter and figurative sculptor working in clay; Alli will be demonstrating wheel-thrown pottery.

Our two new Sugar Maples were recently planted in honor of Janet Elizabeth Brown and Bruce & Nancy Montgomery. Come learn the fascinating story of Suneta and honor the life and contributions of Janet, Bruce and Nancy.

Patricia Ladd Carega Gallery

“THROUGH THE LENS” is an exhibit of photography at Patricia Carega Gallery by two artists, one from Sandwich and the other from NYC with Sandwich connections. Brook Hedge and Jonathan Pellow, will open their exhibit on June 29. Join us for a reception to meet the artists and view their captivating work from 5 to 7 p.m. Both Hedge and Pellow bring a powerful artistic vision to their photographs. Hedge’s work is emotional, offering a visual challenge to the viewer through a delicate lens. Pellow’s architectural pictures take us to new optical heights that inspire breathtaking sensations. Both Hedge and Pellow remove us from the mundane. Their images are compelling. Today, with the iPhone camera’s popularity, one can easily forget the intricate and graceful process of the art of photography - lens, light, heart, mind - the ingredients needed to capture the artistic picture that is so present in this exhibit.

Book and Supply Scholarship

If you are a Sandwich resident and recent high school graduate working on your first undergraduate degree (full time) or full time at a tech school, you are eligible to receive the Sandwich Woman’s Club Book and Supply Money Scholarship. Students have until August 1, 2024 to write a note to Sandwich Woman's Club, PO Box 485, Center Sandwich, NH 03227.
In the note you should introduce yourself and include your name and contact information, your goals for the future and your plan to reach those goals.
Contact info needs to include the following: Name, home address, and where to send book and supply money (physical), email or phone in case we need to contact you. Students may request Book and Supply Money each year (no more than 4 years) of their undergraduate career. Checks are written to the students by the end of September and do not interfere with other financial aid awards.

Advice To The Players is a unique company of theater professionals, enthusiastic community members and energetic teens that has been performing Shakespeare and offering workshops in New Hampshire's Lakes and Mountains Region since 1999.


Club Sandwich with John Davidson

Located in Center Sandwich, New Hampshire, CLUB SANDWICH premiered Friday, July 2, 2021. You'll enjoy an intimate musical evening in a cozy room with an audience of 50-ish friendly folks. We hope our patrons will return for multiple shows during the season as John's show is constantly changing. For seating, instead of standard chairs, you'll relax in couches, loveseats and rockers. And after every show, John is available for photos and to autograph any merchandise purchased at our gift shop.

Field Fine Art offers Art Classes

A new season of classes begins this Summer at Field Fine Art Studio, located at 74 Taylor Road in Sandwich. From Kathryn Field: There are two new class offerings this summer which I am very excited about. The Glass Mosaic class is something I have never offered in my studio before, but did for many years with my students when I taught at Holderness. The second new class, 2-D, 3-D Collage and Mixed Media is a combination of printmaking, handmade books, and mixed media. It has been a great year of creativity for me. A new and exciting gallery expansion of painting and sculpture works will unfold this summer.
Classes begin July 1 and go through September 10.

Pottery Classes

Individual wheel-throwing classes, pottery date night (or afternoon), and evenings in the studio are happening!
~Individual wheel-throwing classes: Learn the basics of making pots on the wheel or hone your skills in four weekly one-on-one 90-minute classes designed around your experience and interests. Four classes, $400
~Pottery Date Night: Looking for a fun way to spend an afternoon or evening with a friend or partner? Schedule a wheel-throwing class for two. Two hours of individual instruction, $300

Music Jam

Hello, beginner to intermediate musicians. This is a reminder that we gather every Wednesday from 6:30 to 8pm at the Sandwich town hall for a free, fun-filled music jam. We play traditional, Celtic, oldtime, folk, and Americana tunes at a slow to moderate tempo. Bring your hobby out and start playing with others! It’s fun and inclusive. Right now, we have fiddles, penny whistle, flute, guitars, mandolin, acoustic bass, piano, concertina, and an autoharp!! Sheet music available. Plenty of parking, and an elevator lift if needed. Friends and Fiber

If music isn’t your thing, maybe yarn is! Every Wednesday evening, 6:00 – 8:30 pm, Library Community Room: Friends and Fiber Group: All abilities and ages of fiber enthusiasts (and those wanting to learn or just visit) are welcome to attend. Come with your knitting, crocheting, spinning, felting, rug hooking, embroidery, sewing or other fiber arts-related or hand-held project to work on. There is no charge and the group is casual and welcoming. While there is no formal instruction, if you have a question about your project, there is usually someone in attendance who can provide assistance. Experience is that the group is likely to gather on the off weeks as well as everyone enjoys the company and sharing of ideas. Corner House

Did you know that 22 Main Street, where the Corner House now resides, has a rich history dating back to the 1800s? At 175 years old, The building has served as a general store, inn, restaurant, and even a community gathering place for generations of Sandwich residents. Stepping into the Corner House is like stepping back in time, with its charming atmosphere and dedication to community spirit.

Elevens Catering will offer prepared salads and more at the North Sandwich Store, 2 Maple Ridge Road in North Sandwich on the weekends throughout the summer. Bookshop Open Saturdays

Chapman Sanctuary and Visny Woods

Discover Birds in the Squam Lakes Region

Friday June 28th, Spark Birding presents a Squam Lakes birding field trip. Led by author Peter Alden and local birder Ken Klapper, the field trip includes several talks, a visit to the Squam Lakes Natural Science Center, a wildlife cruise on Squam Lake to view Common Loons nesting sites, and a bird walk at Thomson Wildlife Sanctuary. Tamworth Community Food Center Welcomes You

If you or someone you know is in a position where access to food would be of help, please call the number provided. There are resources. The primary goal of the Tamworth Community Food Center is addressing hunger for those in need, serving the communities of Tamworth and Sandwich, NH. We are dedicated to providing fresh and nutritious food to people and families who may go without it. Senior Meals

Sandwich senior meals are held at 12:00 noon every Wednesday at the Benz Center, 18 Heard Road, Center Sandwich. Moultonboro senior meals are held Monday through Thursday at the Moultonboro Community Center (formerly Old Lions Club) at 139 Old Route 109. 
All are welcome at both locations. Coffee is ready at the Benz Center, 18 Heard Road, at 11:30!
Come early and stay later to have more time to enjoy the company of others!

Burrows Memorial

The Burrows family of Sandwich, NH invites all those who enjoyed the presence of Buster and Dana Burrows to an afternoon of memories on July 7 at 2:00 pm at the Craft Barn on the Sandwich Fairgrounds. It will be an opportunity to share memories of our friends Dana and Buster Burrows. Light refreshments will be served.


Sandwich Farmers’ Market

The Sandwich Farmers’ Market will be set up at the village green in front of Sandwich Home Industries, Center Sandwich, this Saturday, June 29, and each Saturday throughout the summer. Vegetables, eggs, meats, syrup, jams, and locally made crafts! Chestnut Meadow Farm, Mountain Breeze Farm, and the Artisan Center of North Sandwich are among the local farmers and producers you will meet there.


Artisan Center of North Sandwich

The Artisan Center of North Sandwich, located in the former Wayside Farm sales building, is chock full of creations from local artisans. We have jewelry, pottery, unique gifts such as Ukrainian Eggs and Carolina Snowflakes, rope and cloth baskets, and of course Wayside Farm’s Great Northern Berries Jam, to name a few.
Open 9-5 daily by self-checkout. In July and August, one of our artisans will be on hand all day Friday and Saturday afternoons. Fridays will feature a wonderful array of classes you can take to create something of your own or to gift to a friend or relative. Classes are limited to 6 people per class and take place on Fridays at 9:30 and 1:30. Each class is approximately 2 hours in length. The cost includes materials and take-home supplies, payable by cash, check, Venmo, or PayPal. Here are several upcoming classes:
July 5: Kumihimo Bracelet ($25): Kumihimo is a Japanese art of woven braids. Participants will learn a basic braid and complete one bracelet. (Amanda)
July 12: Iris Cards ($15) Iris folding is a technique in which folded strips of colored paper are layered in a spiral pattern behind an aperture opening of a piece of cardstock. It resembles the iris of an eye or camera. (Wendy)

Chestnut Meadow Farm

Garlic Scapes are in! These fun, garlicy, twirly stalks are great stir-fried, made into pesto, even grilled! We will be taking part in more Farmer’s markets beginning this Saturday, June 29. Booty Family Farm

Booty Family Farm is thrilled to announce that STRAWBERRIES are in the stand! Steve is picking daily at noon to maximize sweetness and the stand will be stocked shortly after that. Garlic scapes are also being harvested and will be in the stand as well as our own maple syrup.
For those new to the area, we are a certified organic farm located at 610 Mount Israel Road and have been in operation for over 40 years. We provide the full array of seasonal vegetables throughout the growing season, maple syrup, lamb, logging services and firewood.

Papa Beans Ice Cream

Many flavors to choose from with all our ice cream base made using Hatchland Farm’s milk and cream from North Haverhill, NH. Since we are a small batch homemade ice cream maker, each batch is unique in flavor and texture. Some of our flavor's bases have different amounts of milk, cream, sugar, egg yolks and other stabilizers than others. Orange creamsicle is back and we have added some with chocolate chips. This base has buttermilk and orange juice to give it a tangy flavor.

Polls open at 8:00 am for all State/Federal Elections (10am for Town Election); Polls close at 7:00pm.

Household Hazardous Waste Collection Dates

Keep our Lakes Region clean and beautiful. Residents and taxpayers may bring up to 10 gallons or 50 pounds of household hazardous waste to one of our regional collection sites. Collection sites closest to Sandwich:
Moultonborough Highway Garage, 68 Hwy Garage Rd., Moultonborough, August 3;
Meredith Department of Public Works Garage, 17 Jenness Hill Road, Meredith, July 27 .
Tuftonboro Transfer Station, 20 Sargent’s Crossing off Rt. 171, September 26.

Sandwich Transfer Station

2023-2024 facility stickers are required for use of the Transfer Station (and swimming facilities). Stickers are available for purchase at Town Hall, by mail or by drop box. Transfer Station use is strictly prohibited for vehicles without stickers/passes (even for longtime residents!).

Sandwich Transfer Station hours are Sunday, Wednesday, Friday, and Saturday from 8 am to 4 pm. Please arrive at the Transfer Station at least 15 minutes before closing to allow for unloading and closure for the day. Kevin and John appreciate being able to close on time. Reminder: if you are recycling larger cardboard, please be sure it is cut to a maximum size of 4' x 4'. Larger pieces jam up our compactors!


Harvest Church of the Lakes Region

Harvest Church invites you to join them at 80 Bean Road in Moultonborough, Sundays at 10:00 am for contemporary worship and Biblical teaching. Harvest’s mission is to Love God, Love Others, and Go into All the World. Harvest Church has several meetings during the week as well: a men’s Bible Study on Mondays in Sandwich, a women’s Bible Study on Monday afternoons in Center Harbor, and a home church meeting on Wednesdays in Sandwich. In the Round

In the Round, a community discussion group for the past 24 years, meets weekly in Sandwich. Meetings are Sunday, in person at the Benz Center, 18 Heard Road. Doors open at 8:30, discussion begins at 8:45. The discussion generally runs until 10am, or a bit longer. The topic is always thought provoking and related to what people are thinking about these days. In the Round welcomes all points of view, reasonably and respectfully considered. Anyone who wishes to join in that spirit of dialog is invited. Various viewpoints are welcomed. Everyone is welcome.


North Sandwich Friends (Quaker) Meeting

North Sandwich Friends Meeting is open for in-person worship every Sunday from 10 – 11 a.m. in the 1881 historic Meeting House. The Meeting House is located at 354 Quaker Whiteface Road in North Sandwich, just north of the Durgin covered bridge.


Community Church of Sandwich

Summer church services have moved to the Baptist Meeting House at 6 Church Street. Service at 10 am, fellowship follows.
The Dessert Auction was a huge success and the church would like to thank the people of Sandwich and surrounding communities for supporting it by baking and bidding. Donations were made by Moulton Farm, The Boro, Heath's Supermarket and Cup and Crumb. The proceeds will be used to support NAMI and Northern Human Services, both mental health services that will be featured at the Awareness Moment during Old Home Week on August 8th.
Raffle tickets for this year’s beautiful quilt are available at the Ice Cream Social on July 6th before the fireworks, at Artisans on the Green on August 8th and the three days of the Sandwich Fair. Proceeds will go toward the restoration of the steeple on the Baptist Meeting House. They are available every Sunday after service during fellowship.
Pastor Deb will return from her sabbatical on July 1. It will be great to welcome her back.!
