Elderville Playing at Town Hall

We are hoping you will come see Elderville: a rollicking, humorous musical that offers a light-hearted take on aging.
Elderville was first performed on the Sandwich stage in 2019. In this revival, (dubbed an even Olderville,) we once again feature a cast of your over-60-year-old friends and neighbors.
The setting is a Brigadoon-like place where, if you wander in and don’t leave, you quickly age to a happy and healthy 82 years of age. After that, you stay 82 forever and life is idyllic: the soup is never too hot, and there’s always a bathroom nearby.
Elderville is sponsored by Yeoman’s Fund for the Arts
All Performances at the Sandwich Town Hall: 8 Maple Street, Center Sandwich
July 11 & 12, 7:30 pm ; July 13, 2:00 pm; July 18 & 19, 7:30 pm; July 20, 2:00 pm. Tickets: [email protected]

Off the Dock Players is presenting a repeat performance of this winter's hit play The Other Place, by Sharr White, starring Ashley Bullard, Rebecca Cole, Abe Garon, Parker Hansen and Marena Harris and directed by Marena and Nancy Blaine. We have decided to perform it on a stage that we think is perfect for the intimate nature of this play. John Davidson has graciously offered us the Club Sandwich stage (12 Main Street) for our performance nights which are  July 21st, July 22nd, July 23rd and July 24th. All shows are at 7pm. Seating is both comfortable AND limited. Tickets are $35 ($15 for students with ID at door) and can ONLY be purchased here:

A Look Back

Sandwich Historical Society Director Jim Mykland has pulled together some interesting entries from the Sandwich Reporter (1883-1944) and one article from the Meredith News. Here are some excerpts; for more, visit https://www.sandwichhistorical.org/miscellany-and-mystery.html
Grab your favorite iced beverage, settle down in your favorite reading spot, and enjoy!
~July 1, 1886:  Quite a lot of wet days the past week.
Mabel and Alice Blanchard picked twenty quarts of wild strawberries last Saturday.
It is reported that there is to be a turnpike built to the top of Red Hill, this season.
~July 8, 1897:  The fierce heat of Monday and Tuesday culminated Tuesday p.m. in a terrific thunderstorm of several hours duration. Many trees were struck in various parts of town, also the old horse shed belonging to Paul Wentworth, Esq., During the storm the temperature fell twenty degrees.
The nicest team of the season passed through here last Sunday, which was three horses abreast.
Blueberries are getting ripe and quite plenty.

There is always something beautiful at the sanctuary.
Dragonflies?  Teacup Lake is fully alive with them!  Right now they are busy chasing each other around.  Soon they will be gobbling up tiny pests after expending so much energy.  Thank you Dragonflies.
Flowers are blooming all over the CSVW acreage as birds and bugs become busy pollinators while gathering food from them.
Roses and Fox Glove are richly colored at the Chapman House, and the meadow beyond Teacup Lake is full of Wood Lillies right now.
Chapman Sanctuary and Visny Woods is located at 740 Mt Israel Road in picturesque Sandwich, New Hampshire. There is plenty of free parking and room to prepare yourself for a lovely day on the trails.

Celebration of Life, Ken Alcock

Kenneth R. Alcock, of Center Sandwich, New Hampshire, passed away on Friday June 6, 2025, one month shy of his 90th birthday. He leaves behind 4 sons, Scott, Jeffrey, Gary, and Glenn, as well as many grandchildren and great grandchildren. Ken was born in Natick, Ma on July 8th, 1935, to George A. and Isabelle (Manning) Alcock. Ken loved nothing more than to spend time on his farm. Ken & his wife Betty spent many years operating Country Carriage Service using their beautiful draft horses. Ken lived a long, meaningful life and we take comfort knowing he is now at peace with his wife Betty. In lieu of flowers, donations to Ossipee Concerned Citizens- Meals on Wheels in his honor would be greatly appreciated.
Please join us on Saturday, July 12th at 2pm for a celebration of life in honor of Ken Alcock. The celebration will take place at the Sandwich Fairgrounds inside the Craft Building. Private burial to take place separately with family only.

North Sandwich Friends

North Sandwich Friends Meeting invites friends and neighbors to join their weekly Meeting for Worship from 10:00 to 11:00 am on Sunday at the North Sandwich Meetinghouse (354 Quaker Whiteface Rd., N Sandwich, NH 03259).
Meeting for Worship is a time of quiet listening to the inner voice of spirit, God, the Light within –whatever term one uses—in community with others. We sit largely in silence for an hour; friends who are deeply moved to share an insight may rise and do so. Most Sundays, a very brief reading is offered reflecting Quaker values or history, which may provide a common focus for reflection. After the meeting, friends share individual reflections and announcements with each other.

In the Round

In the Round takes place Sundays at 8:45 – 10:30 am at the Benz Center, 18 Heard Road, Sandwich.
In the Round, a community discussion group for the past 25 years, meets weekly in Sandwich. The topic is always thought-provoking and related to what people are thinking about these days. In the Round welcomes all points of view, reasonably and respectfully considered. Anyone who wishes to join in that spirit of dialog is invited. Various viewpoints are welcomed. Everyone is welcome.
