Bring your bike to have the volunteer techs get it ready for riding this season (it's ok to bring more than one).

Chapman Sanctuary and Visny Woods
Annual Bird Walk

This year will mark the 10th annual CSVW Bird Walk. Join in, Saturday, May 9, 2026 at 7:30 am at Chapman Sanctuary and Visny Woods. CSVW is so excited to have Wildlife Biologist, Christine Costello lead the way for the 10th time!
Chris Costello will share her extensive knowledge as we learn to identify birds by sight, sound and evidence of their presence.  Together we will explore natural habitats and food sources that help support successful broods.  We’ll keep track of the birds we’ve spotted on our journey as Chris helps us to identify different species.  We will have the opportunity to try out important bird identification technology from Cornell Labs.
Come spend the morning exploring lovely sanctuary grounds as we meander along woodland trails, out to the open meadow and down to Teacup Lake.   Checking on some of the CSVW Birdhouses made possible by our 2026 Birdhouse Sponsors is an important part of this event.
Back at the Chapman House there will be light refreshments in the shade of the screened porch where we will compare notes and tally the species we’ve encountered.  This is a nice time to learn from each other as we share birding tips, favorite birding spots & our own bird-watching stories.  Discussions may involve some ways we can help our feathered friends thrive by paying attention to the environment that birds and other wildlife depend on for their survival.
Event is FREE! and open to the public
  • RAIN DATE:  Sunday • May 16 • 7:30 am
  • Bring binoculars and/or camera if you have them
  • Birding notebook or journal
  • Meet in the Upper Parking Area and be ready to hit the trail at 7:30am
  • THERE MAY BE A SURPRISE OR 2 THIS YEAR!

CSVW United Way Day of Caring

Granit State United Way is sending a team of volunteers to CSVW. This important event takes place Friday, May 15 from 9:00am – 3:00pm.
Volunteers will work alongside CSVW Trustees to perform some important maintenance on the trails, in the gardens and all over the sanctuary grounds.  CSVW Wildlife depends on the protected environment provided by Chapman Sanctuary and Visny Woods and it is imperative to keep trails open, clear of brush and passable for both the wildlife and the public.  The gardens need tending in order to continue to flourish for the many critically important pollinators at the sanctuary.
CAN YOU HELP THE SANCTUARY ON MAY 15th?
CSVW appreciates any and all volunteers that can give us an hour, a morning or the whole day.
REFRESHMENTS WILL BE AVAILABLE
Please join us ready to work with your hands in the gardens and on the trails.
WHAT YOU MIGHT NEED:
  • garden or work gloves,
  • dress in layers with both short & long sleeves
  • bug spray and sunscreen,
  • water
  • gardening and/or trail maintenance tools
There are lots of ways to help support the beautiful wildlife that graces the Sandwich, New Hampshire area and makes the sanctuary their home.
Many thanks to our members, sponsors & volunteers who have given so generously over the years. Please join hundreds of our loyal supporters who value all that CSVW has to offer nature, bird, and wildlife enthusiasts.
Chapman Sanctuary and Visny Woods located at 740 Mt. Israel Road in lovely Sandwich, New Hampshire. Spend the whole day or just a couple of hours at CSVW. Trails are open every day from dawn until dusk free of charge with plenty of parking. Please sign in at the VISITOR’S KIOSK where you will find trail maps and other information. Enjoy!

Sandwich Home Industries turns 100!
This summer, the Sandwich Historical Society will celebrate 100 years of the Sandwich Home Industries. The exhibition will run from June 27 through September 5 and include the legacy of Mary and J. Randolph Coolidge, the story of cooperative support of local artisans, and artifacts from 100 years of retail.
Look for many events and programs throughout the year!

SHI Welcomes new Gallery Manager

The Sandwich Home Industries is pleased to announce in this, the Centennial year of the Sandwich Home Industries, that Lisa Pendergast of Meredith, NH has been appointed the new Gallery Manager. Since moving to the area in the mid-1980’s, Lisa has been a patron of area League shops. In 1997 she even started collections of the Annual Ornaments for her 3 daughters. Although she lives in Meredith, she has been a regular patron of the shop in Center Sandwich, attending annual events such as Artisans on the Green in August and Christmas in the Village in December.
Lisa’s connection to the Sandwich community was deepened by the time she spent at ski practices and competitions in town, when her daughters, over the course of almost twelve years, were part of the ILMHS Nordic Ski Teams.
Lisa brings eight years’ experience as an independent bookkeeper for a few small Lakes Region businesses.  In addition, for the past two years Lisa has been the administrative assistant for the Meredith Historical Society. Prior to those roles, she had nearly two decades of experience with local companies J.Jill and Melcher & Prescott.  Lisa holds both associate and bachelor’s degrees from Merrimack College in North Andover, MA.

Picture Night

On May 7, Join friends and neighbors from near and far as Historical Society Director Jim Mykland takes you on another trip through the photograph collection of the Sandwich Historical Society.  You know we love to share our photographs!
We have a specially-curated selection of landscapes, people and buildings now long gone. Acknowledging and seeing the past helps us understand the present and think about the future of our little town.  History isn’t just yesterday, but it’s also today and gives us insight into what may be down the road tomorrow.
Help us in our mission to preserve, educate and share the history of Sandwich. We promise, not an academic slog, but a fun evening learning about and seeing Sandwich past.
This is a free program via Zoom.  RSVP: [email protected] - no later than Wednesday, May 6, noon.  The Zoom link will be emailed to all registered participants the morning of the program.

Chamber Music

Sandwich resident and professional musician Shelby Trevor will be the featured violinist for an Evening of Bach and Original Chamber Music, featuring violin, hurdy-gurdy, piano and guitar. The performance will take place at Geneva Point Center, Moultonborough, on Friday, May 8. The program, Shelby Trevor and Friends: Bach and Original Chamber Music, will feature a performance of Partita No. 3 in E Major by J.S. Bach alongside newly composed chamber works for violin, hurdy-gurdy, guitar, and piano. The concert brings together classical repertoire and original new music in the open and resonant space of the Meeting House at Geneva Point Center. This unique and rare program highlights both tradition and innovation taking place in the music and culture of our time.
Trevor will be joined by performing artists and composers Noelle Beaudin (hurdy-gurdy) and Daniel Padgett (piano), collaborators whose work spans classical, folk, experimental, and contemporary music. Augustus Marshall will also be taking the stage to perform guitar in the premiere of a trio written by Trevor for guitar, hurdy-gurdy, and violin. Marshall is a rising young star studying piano and composition with Noelle Beaudin. He is a senior at Inter-lakes High School.
Beaudin and Trevor perform together as RamaLisa, a violin and hurdy-gurdy duo inspired by folklore, myth, and the natural world. Their all-original music blends, driving rhythmic textures, shimmering drones, and lyrical melodies, creating a sound world that is both ancient and newly imagined. They have begun to make a splash in musical spaces where hurdy-gurdy meets art music, and genre-defying innovation.
Padgett collaborates with Trevor in East Mill Outcry, a project honoring a long history as musical friends stemming back to their conservatory years performing classical, improvisation, cross-genre exploration, original & new compositions. Their deep collaborative history brings a dynamic, responsive, and adventurous energy to their chamber performance.
In addition to the concert program, Trevor’s recent studio recording of Bach’s Partita No. 3 in E Major will be available. The recording is currently accessible as a digital download on Bandcamp. It will be available on CD at the performance, with additional streaming releases forthcoming.
Shelby Trevor is a violinist, composer, and educator with a distinguished and wide-ranging performance career spanning classical, folk, experimental, and improvisation-driven music. He has performed extensively in diverse concert settings as a soloist, chamber musician, and orchestral member, establishing a reputation for expressive and engaging musicianship.
Friday, May 8, 7:30 PM (doors open at 7:00 PM); Meeting House at Geneva Point Center, Moultonborough. Tickets: available via Eventbrite, under Shelby Trevor & Friends: Bach & Original Chamber Music.

Harvest Church’s Mission is to love God, love others, and go into all the world with the good news of Christ. This mission flows from who we are: A family of missionary-servants, sent to the Lakes Region of New Hampshire so that everyone here will have multiple opportunities to hear and respond to the gospel of Jesus Christ. Harvest offers several meetings during the week, including a men’s Bible Study on Mondays in Sandwich, and a women’s Bible Study on Fridays in Meredith. North Sandwich Friends

North Sandwich Friends Meeting invites friends and neighbors to join their weekly Meeting for Worship from 10:00 to 11:00 am on Sunday at the North Sandwich Meetinghouse (354 Quaker Whiteface Rd., N Sandwich, NH 03259).
Meeting for Worship is a time of quiet listening to the inner voice of spirit, God, the Light within –whatever term one uses—in community with others. We sit largely in silence for an hour; friends who are deeply moved to share an insight may rise and do so. Most Sundays, a very brief reading is offered reflecting Quaker values or history, which may provide a common focus for reflection. After the meeting, friends share individual reflections and announcements with each other.
