Chapman Sanctuary and Visny Woods

This is a beautiful time to hit the trails at Chapman Sanctuary and Visny woods as the seasons begin to change.
Leaves on the trees are losing some of their green and starting to hint at their autumn colors. Apples are ripening just as berries are disappearing. Some vegetation is already defoliating, while mushrooms, fungi and mosses are having their moment in nature.
As beautiful as any flower, these thrive all over the CSVW trails. Still there are plenty of native perennials blooming for the pollinators who are extra determined right now.
Many birds have already begun the business of preparing for migration and some have already flown. Other species are busy taking advantage of the available seeds and nuts that are abundant on the sanctuary acreage. Leftover caterpillar nests and the remaining insects and fat frogs in the area are a great source of nutrition for birds and animals.
A visit to CSVW is always a great way to enjoy the late summer & early autumn months. The trails are a cool and quiet place for hikers, birdwatchers, and all nature enthusiasts.
Located at 740 Mt Israel Road in Center Sandwich, New Hampshire.
CSVW is open FREE to the public every day from dawn until dusk with plenty of FREE parking.

Local Author at Castle

Sandwich author and historian, Mj Pettengill, will present a two-session program at Castle in the Clouds in Moultonborough, on September 28. Embrace the nature of our cycles and seasons while discovering the art of creating wild, locally harvested tea for beverage and medicinal purposes. Identify familiar local plants traditionally used for various teas, infusions, and decoctions. Topics discussed include: preparation, drying, storing, crushing, when to use fresh or dry, and how to accomplish this. Register by visiting www.castleintheclouds.org, and clicking on calendar of events, category, wildcrafting-herbal-tea. Session 1 is from 1:00 – 2:30 pm and Session 2 is 4:00 – 5:00 pm both on September 28.

Meeting for Worship is a time of quiet listening to the inner voice of spirit, God, the Light within –whatever term one uses—in community with others. We sit largely in silence for an hour; friends who are deeply moved to share an insight may rise and do so. Most Sundays, a very brief reading is offered reflecting Quaker values or history, which may provide a common focus for reflection. After the meeting, friends share individual reflections and announcements with each other.
