Sandwich COVID-19 Relief Fund
The Sandwich COVID19 Relief Fund is still available for Sandwich residents facing financial challenges related to COVID-19: This fund is designed to provide temporary support and will be offered via gift cards or checks/vouchers to vendors and businesses based on the number of individuals in a family and specific needs. Assistance can include, but is not limited to, groceries, heating fuel, electric bills, gas, rent, and other necessary expenses. Any Sandwich resident may contact: *Cathy Graham, Selectmen’s Office (284-7701) tos@cyberpine.net cell: 491-2004 *Pastor Deb Hoffman, Community Church of Sandwich (284-6151) pastordeb@metrocast.net cell: 570-269-2000

The fund will operate for one year until April 15, 2021. The intent will be to disperse the entire fund balance prior to that time. If excess funds remain at the end of the year, those funds will be donated to non-profit agencies that serve human welfare needs of Sandwich residents such as the Sandwich Children’s Center or local food pantries.
THANK YOU to all of you who have donated to this relief fund thus far.  We are humbled by your generosity.

COVID-19 Testing
You can go to the State COVID info website - https://www.nh.gov/covid19/index.htm, click the 'testing registration' button and sign up for a time and day to get the test.  A doctor's note is not required. There are a few 'reasons' for requesting the test -- if you're over 60 or have one of several health conditions like diabetes, heart condition, etc. This should expand the state's ability to test many more citizens.
Sandwich Town Hall
Cathy Graham writes: Just a reminder:  the Sandwich Town Hall is still closed to the public, but we are conducting Town business as usual.

The Town Clerk/Tax Collector, Alison Gage, is registering vehicles and boats, collecting taxes, vital records, and processing absentee ballots.  We have two picnic tables in the back of the parking lot where Alison can conduct business.  Simply drop your appropriate paperwork in the drop box at the top of the handicap ramp.  Give Alison a call from the parking lot and she will grab your paperwork and process it.

The Selectmen's Office staff, Cathy Graham, Courtney Delaney and Kelly Cox, can help with your assessing needs, building permit applications, Committee/Board applications, beach & dump stickers, financial, and Town department issues.

We only have one phone line for each office, so if the phone is busy, keep trying; it just means we are on the phone with another resident.  Four of us in this building are Notaries.  Call either number if you need us to notarize your signature.  We are happy to do it at one of the picnic tables outside.  Thanks for your patience while we continue to adapt to operating in this time of COVID.  Stay well, Catherine Graham

You can read the latest developments and recommendations for the State of New Hampshire here. The Town's COVI-19 page on the website has lots of useful information.

The Selectmen's Office:  284-7701  tos@cyberpine.net
Town Clerk/Tax Collector: 284-7113   tctcsandwich@cyberpine.net

The Selectmen decided to split their Monday night meetings into two parts starting this Monday, April 13th:
  1. 4:00 P.M. - 5:00 P.M. - Work Session - This hour will provide the Selectmen to catch up with Department Heads if necessary, and to review ongoing Town business.
  2. 5:00 - 6:00 or later - Regular Meeting - This hour+ will serve as the regular portion of the meeting when formal agenda items are discussed.

As always, the public is welcome to attend either portion of the meeting.  They are now being held in person in the upstairs meeting room where physical distancing is possible.  All are required to wear masks.

Also, the Selectmen's Meeting Agendas are posted on Thursday mornings to provide adequate notice per the Right-to-Know statute.  If you would like to attend a Selectmen's Meeting and would like your topic listed on the formal agenda, please contact Catherine Graham at the latest Thursday morning before the Monday meeting.

The Selectmen's Office and Town Clerk do not work in Town Hall on Wednesdays. For information regarding Covid -19 and the impact to our town we have a link on the town website sandwichnh.org under the information icon.  A direct link to the Covid -19 page is here.

Parks & Recreation – All school activities and adult activities (basketball, pickleball) suspended until further notice.
Public Safety (Fire & Police) – Emergency services as before, other duties to minimize direct contact.
Highway Department: Service to continue while working to minimize direct contact.

Transfer Station
Transfer Station operating hours remain as usual (Sunday, Wednesday, and Friday 8-4 and Sunday 12-4).  In an effort to keep social distance and minimize time at the Transfer Station, only one car at a time can move up to the dumpster and then unload quickly and proceed promptly. The Swap Shop is closed. Residents are encouraged to visit on Wednesday or Friday to reduce traffic on Sunday. Remember that 3:30 PM – 4:00 PM gets very busy so plan accordingly. Procedure remains the same: one vehicle at a time. Remain in vehicle until your turn. Thank you!

Masks Required: At their meeting last night, the Board of Selectmen voted to require the wearing of masks by all who use our Transfer Station. You have most likely seen the large sign at the entrance gate requesting masks are worn.  Masks are now mandatory both for your safety and our Attendants. Thank you for your cooperation.

Construction Debris restrictions:
1.  Families are restricted to disposing any Construction & Demolition materials to one visit per week
2.  There is a 2-yard maximum per visit (4 large trash cans full)
3.  Contractors/businesses are still not allowed to dispose of their C&D materials from job sites - this phase of re-opening is to accommodate households ONLY with smaller projects.
You may have noticed some excavation work getting done at the Transfer Station so the C&D container could be relocated and remain out of the busier traffic flow area. Now that the container has been relocated, when disposing of your C&D materials, please see Kevin or John first at the main building to notify them.
Thank you for your cooperation - and please do not hesitate to ask Kevin or John if you have any questions.

Sandwich and Moultonboro Senior Meals
For the foreseeable future, congregate meals at the Sandwich and Moultonboro sites are canceled. Home delivery will be made ONLY for shut-ins on Donna's list. If you would like to go to the Moultonboro site (Monday through Thursday) to pick up a meal, call ahead (476-5110). You will need to bring your own pen to sign up when you arrive and your meal will be handed to you at the entrance. Providing your own pen is a precaution so that no germs are shared.

Donna is ensuring that the program is as safe as possible given the circumstances. Uncharted territory for all, to be sure. Should you call for a meal, please be sure to thank Donna for her dedication. Thank you, be safe! Deb Kissell, Volunteer
Community Food Center
St Andrews Church, 678 Whittier Road, Tamworth, NH
As we navigate through various societal changes, the Tamworth CFC has modified its hours and days of operation, and the process of signing up for the service, ordering, and picking up food. I wish to outline the basic information, but most importantly, the phone numbers for general inquiries and ordering.
For general information: 603-960-4067
To place an order on-site or ahead of time on the day of pickup: 603-323-8515

Note: A (cell) phone is necessary to place and pick up your order on-site or prior, as mentioned above.

Staying aligned with social distancing, the procedures, days, and hours at the Tamworth CFC are as follows:
**Order forms are provided in the bags, making it easier for those who wish to call ahead of time. Having this form alleviates waiting and the need to use a cell phone at the site if you do not have one.**

**The CFC Food Pantry is open every other Wednesday, from 12:00 to 6:00 PM. >> July 22, August 5th, etc.

Unless you call in advance, upon arrival at St Andrew’s Church, you will see a sign that provides a phone number (or numbers) to call and place your order. You will be required to wait outside or in your vehicle.

When the order is complete, it is delivered to your vehicle or a table at the walkway entrance. Bags and boxes are provided. Clients’ bags are no longer accepted. This process ensures that people in need of food can receive assistance while keeping both recipients and volunteers safe.

Please share this vital service with those who reside in Tamworth or Sandwich and need food assistance. There is a surplus of food for those who need it. Updates to be posted here and on Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/foodpantrytamworth/ Feel free to contact me via email if you have any questions or inquiries. Best regards, Mj Pettengill, North Sandwich

Sandwich's Project Good Morning
Sandwich's Project Good Morning has been operating since 2004 and operated as partnership between the Selectmen’s Office, the Police Department, and Community Members. This began as a way to provide a point of contact between residents and the town for any folks who did not have regular social contact. For those of you who feel isolated, and like you may need some peace of mind or connection, we offer this program to you.  This can be a quick morning check in, or we will link you to folks in our community who will help give you and guide you toward getting the support you need. If you choose to partake here’s what you do: We ask that on your first call in that you let us know you want to be added to this list.

Call into Town Hall between 9-10am Monday, Tuesday, and Thursday: 284-7701
Call into the Police Department between 9-10am Wednesday and Friday: 284-7139
We want to make sure you call if you are concerned for yourself, family member, or neighbor. We have people who are ready to connect with you and/or assist you with connecting with the support you (they) may need. Be Good to One Another and Be Your Neighbor's Keeper.

Sandwich Business Group
Obviously the Covid-19 pandemic is causing lots of disruption for our daily lives and may have a significant impact on our businesses.  Each business/organization within the SBG is unique and will have its own challenges in navigating what actions they should take to protect their employees, volunteers, and their business/organization.  We encourage each of you to review the information provided by CDC and State and Local government to make decisions appropriate for your situation.  Here are a couple of links that will provide current information and guidance:

https://www.cdc.gov/coronavirus/2019-nCoV/
https://www.nh.gov/covid19/

There is more information and links on the Sandwich Business Group page of this website.

As a group, we can support each other and would like to hear your thoughts on how the group as a whole or as individuals can help us all to get through this health crisis.  This is a community wide issue and we should try to be as supportive as possible in mitigating the effects of this worldwide pandemic.

Jon Greenawalt, Vice President
Vicky Galkina, Secretary

Sandwich Fairgrounds
The Sandwich Fair Association welcomes responsible use of the grounds. In this Covid time, safe social distancing is expected. The Fair Association always expects users to be thoughtful and safe; this includes cleaning up after animals and never leaving a mess behind. Any organized activity also requires the written permission of the Sandwich Fair Association, Inc. For more information, please visit www.thesandwichfair.com

Some of the buildings and grounds will be used this fall by the Inter-Lakes School District as part of their social distance learning. It is especially important that the public control and clean up after their dogs/animals as the new school year begins. Please be considerate and safe.

We Care
One gift we can give each other and ourselves at this time is to speak openly about mental health.  A few years ago, a caring friend taught me how meaningful it can be to simply ask directly, “How is your mental health these days?” Her simple question helped me feel less alone, acknowledge how much I was hurting, and reflect on what might help. Dan Kusch, We Care member

We Care is a welcoming, all-volunteer group of neighbors who believe that all of us can play a meaningful role in taking care of each other and fostering mental health in our community. We are children, siblings, parents, grandparents, colleagues and friends, new and lifelong residents. For more information or if you are interested in joining us, please contact Dan Kusch, 568-3191 dan....@gmail.com

Advent at the Community Church of Sandwich
Advent begins Sunday, November 29th with our Hanging of the Greens worship. Since we will be unable to have our traditional Christmas Eve service due to Covid, our poinsettias ordering process will be a bit different this year. The Church will be ordering 25 poinsettias for our Sunday Dec. 20th worship service. If you would like to purchase one of these poinsettia, there are a few options available to do so. You can use the signup sheet which will be in the narthex of the Methodist Meetinghouse, or you may call the church office at 284-6151, and leave a message including the name/s and dedication information as you would like it to appear in the bulletin the Sunday before Christmas. Also, as many people are currently unable to attend church services in person, Joisse will send out an email announcement to past participants to provide them the opportunity to purchase and dedicate as they have in prior years. Please contact Joisse Rumary at the church office 284-6151 if you have any questions. Joisse is in the office on Tuesday and Wednesday from 9:00 am to 1:00pm. The cost once again is $12.50. A check may be put in the collection plate (with poinsettia in the memo) or a check may be mailed to the office, (Community Church of Sandwich, PO Box 267, Center Sandwich, NH 03227). Please include your telephone number in case there are questions. Poinsettias may be picked up after the worship service on Sunday Dec. 20th. Thanks – we’re all looking forward to the bright, warm colors the poinsettias add to our time of worship as we prepare for the birth of our lord

Advent Series: After the first Sunday of Advent and the Hanging of the Greens, we will offer an Advent Series entitled: Embracing Tradition While Experiencing New Birth. Hanging of the Greens Sun. November 29 @ 10 AM. This is the first Sunday of Advent when we will prepare the church together for Advent and Christmas and share the symbolism behind all the decorations. This will be a worship time where we all share in the liturgy and decorating of the sanctuary

A Blue Christmas gathering will be offered for those in the community who are grieving during this time when everyone else seems to be festive and celebrating. Let us join together on Sunday evening, December 20 at 5 pm at the Methodist Meetinghouse for a time of quiet reflection, spiritual readings and prayer. This gathering is not only for people who have lost loved ones, but also for the loss of the ability to be together with family and friends this year due to the pandemic.

Christmas Eve will be celebrated differently this year: In keeping with guidelines of social distancing, this year there will be a Live Nativity outside the Baptist Meetinghouse with narration and Christmas music. This will be available from 5 -7 pm Thursday, December 24 so that people can come and go during those two hours. We hope you will come and help us celebrate the birth of our Lord!

Moravian Love Feast Never heard of it? Forget what it is? Well then, come and see what it’s all about on Sunday, December 27. I will say, we share Moravian sweet bread and coffee/tea/juice within the worship time.

In the Round
In  the Round is meeting via ZOOM.  Information on joining us on Sunday morning at 8:45 am is at the end of this paragraph. The topic  is always thought provoking and related to what people are thinking about these days. Recent topics include: tolerance, remote learning, overpopulation and sustainability, privilege, white fragility, what's in a name, the publishing industry, Covid. ZOOM link or phone dial in number: Join Zoom Meeting https://zoom.us/j/806102625  Dial in. +16465588656,,806102625#

In the Round welcomes all points of view, reasonably and respectfully considered. Anyone who wishes to join in that spirit of dialog is invited. The group meets each Sunday at 8:45am (currently on Zoom). The Zoom screen opens at 8:30am before they  begin with the topic at 8:45am.  Come with observations, ideas, and experiences you would like to share, or simply come to listen.

Doris L. Benz Community Center
Even though the Center is closed, the building continues to be available to the Town in the event that an emergency shelter is needed. Utility costs including plowing in the winter will continue even though the donations for use of the building are nil. Any donations toward these operating costs are greatly appreciated and may be made out to "Benz Community Center" and sent to PO Box 52 Center Sandwich, NH 03227. We look forward to opening the building up for use when the conditions are safe for groups to gather in large numbers indoors.

Sandwich Animal Hospital
With the increasing concerns about COVID-19 (Coronavirus), please know that we are doing our best to maintain a safe environment for all our clients and staff. We have many clients in high risk groups (such as elderly, immunocompromised, or with underlying medical conditions), so we ask for all of your help and support as we navigate this situation. In the clinic, we have instituted more rigorous and enhanced cleaning and disinfecting protocols (above and beyond our usual comprehensive protocols).

We will still be filling prescriptions and will have food available but strongly prefer that you either pay ahead of time over the phone via credit card or we will provide you with the balance so you can have a check ready. Call us when you arrive and we will bring your medications/food/invoice right out to your vehicle. We do not currently have an issue with supply or shipping times, but we strongly recommend that you consider calling us one week ahead of time to ensure that we have your pet's food or medications when you need it.

If your pet is sick or having a medical issue, the doctors and staff at SAH will be here to help you and your pet for as long as we can.  Please call us to arrange bringing your pet in for medical care.  We ask that our clients:
 – Utilize a drop-off appointment. We can discuss your pets’ needs over the phone and bring your pet into and out of the clinic directly to your vehicle to limit your exposure.
– Please wait outside for your appointment with your pet in your car or outside away from other clients in an effort to limit people’s exposure to other people in the lobby. The staff will call you or come outside when we are ready for your appointment.
– If you are having cold or flu-like symptoms, please have someone else bring your pet to the clinic. If you do not have anyone to transport your pet, please call us to make other arrangements.

While we feel strongly that all elective and well visits should be postponed for the time being, please call us to discuss whether or not some of your pet’s annual vaccines can be postponed. Both the Lyme and Leptospirosis booster vaccines are time-sensitive and, as some of you will likely be spending more time nature associating while social distancing, are strongly recommended as mud season approaches.

Lastly, please understand that our staff will be refraining from shaking hands or giving hugs – it’s nothing personal!
Thank you for helping us to maintain our high standards for the health and safety of our clients and our SAH team.

Sincerely, Drs. Cloutier and the staff at SAH

We can be reached at the email above or elaine@rnpeasleeandsons.com, dan@rnpeasleeandsons.com
