Sandwich Events Calendar

This Week, Dec 31 ~ Jan 6

Header by Franz Nicolay. There are carefully planned (for social distancing) events taking place. See below. A list of Town, business and organizations' responses to the current situation can be found on the page called Sandwich Responds. Find current news on the page What's Happening. Check it out!

Diane Johnson writes: News of a Covid vaccine starting to be administered to front line workers and via a protocol gives us all hope that this horrible pandemic will be managed as we go into 2021. The advent season is one of hope, love, joy and peace. Hanukkah celebrates a miracle. Winter Solstice happened at 5:02AM on December 21, which is the shortest/darkest day of the year. There is hope in the days ahead. May love, joy, peace, light, and miracles be yours in this season and in the days and years to come.

If you cannot find the information  you need, you may call or text me (Diane Johnson) at 603-284-7168 or email me at sandwichnews@hotmail.com. I may not immediately have the answer; but I can often steer you towards a person or place that will.

This calendar usually updates on Thursday morning. A special thank-you to Diane Johnson whose work is the basis of this Events Calendar. If there is something you think should be listed, please email your information to Diane Johnson, unless it's happening right away, in which case email Janina Lamb. For a compendium of current items of interest for Sandwich residents and visitors, please visit What's Happening.

Grateful thanks to Allan DiBiase, Jude Davis, and others, whose photographs illuminate this website with the beauty of Sandwich.

In the Round is a Sunday morning discussion group that regularly meets at the Benz Center (community center) on Heard Road (off of Grove Street) each week from 8:45am-10:00am. The topic changes each week as suggested by a member of the assembled group. Topics are as varied as are the opinions and observations voiced. Most of the discussions are exploratory in nature, and are respectful of others in the group. The numbers in the group vary from week to week depending on people's personal schedules, and fluctuates between six and fifteen. They  welcome all interested comers with expertise or questions. Community Church of Sandwich
Sunday morning worship will begin at 10:00 am in the Baptist Meetinghouse. Social distancing, sanitizing, and mask wearing are  part of the re-entry team plan. For those who are not comfortable returning to the church building at this time, Al Handford will live stream the service on Facebook and record it for viewing at your convenience. Rev. Deb Hoffman is the minister. Judy English is the organist.

Pastor Deb posts uplifting thoughts and prayers every day and leads weekly Bible studies via Zoom. Each week she has been posting (with the help of Al Handford)  a special church service complete with children's sermon and music. You can watch this post Sunday mornings at 10 am during the regular worship time; or, you can watch any time. All are welcome. If you would like to receive the posts from the church in your email, you can contact the church at 284-6151 or sandwichchurch@gmail.com

North Sandwich Friends Meeting
The Meetinghouse is open for unprogrammed worship at 10:30 on Sundays. With love and wishes for peace, Susan.

Learning to Fall Book Discussion
A former Sandwich resident, Philip Simmons, wrote this inspirational book, Learning to Fall, after being diagnosed with ALS. We will begin a weekly book group discussing one chapter at a time, starting Monday, January 4 at 10 AM.  Depending upon the number that sign up for this book group, if deemed safe, we may meet masked and socially distanced in the downstairs of the Baptist Meeting House with a Zoom Link always available for those who may wish to "Zoom In." Please reply by emailing me at pastordeb@metrocast.net if you are interested in being part of this book group and let me know if you will order your own book or would like to purchase one from the church (I've ordered several extras). Blessings, Pastor Deb

Those who visit Sandwich, NH, often find themselves planning to return. Some even return here to live. What makes Sandwich such a prized destination? An invigorating atmosphere, friendly people and quiet streets. Clear waters and scenic views in the White Mountains. Plenty to see and do embedded in the vibrant spirit of an historic New England town. I am grateful to be part of this exceptional community.

Grateful thanks to the Alfred Quimby Fund, the Town of Sandwich and Wedco for their support.
