Permits may be obtained on-line, just Google 'NH Fire Permits' and follow the directions. Obtaining a Fire Permit on-line will cost you five dollars. Permits may also be obtained at the Town Hall during business hours, at the Central Fire Station or you may call the Warden at 603-387-7104. Trails will reopen in late April or early May based on ground conditions. Each year the Squam Lakes Association, in conjunction with landowners who allow public access on their land, temporarily closes a number of trails around Squam. Closing trails is essential to prevent significant damage to the places you love, and it gives us a chance to perform maintenance. As the snow melts, the icy or muddy conditions force hikers to move off the trails and on to the softer ground on the side. This activity loosens rocks, weakens trees, and creates erosion, which hurts both the trails and the surrounding environment. In order to protect the trail network, please avoid hiking on closed trails until we reopen them when conditions dry up! Thank you for helping protect the trails! Closed Trails: include trails on the Rattlesnake Network (East and West Rattlesnake) and Squam Range trails. To inquire about trail closures, call 603-968-7336 or email [email protected].
